Spouse Visa

About Spouse Visa

Canada’s Spousal Sponsorship program is a vital part of its family reunification initiative, allowing Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their spouse or partner to join them in Canada. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) prioritizes spousal sponsorship applications, with recent improvements reducing processing times to around 12 months, both for applicants within and outside Canada.

Under the Spousal Sponsorship category, successful applicants are granted permanent residency upon approval, allowing families to live together in Canada.

Sponsorship Pathways with IG Overseas

  1. Outside-Canada Sponsorship: Applicants sponsored from outside Canada receive a spousal visa (Confirmation of Permanent Residence) upon approval. They must enter Canada before the visa expires to activate their permanent residency status.
  2. Inside-Canada Sponsorship: Applicants already in Canada may apply under the Spouse in Canada class, allowing them to apply for an Open Work Permit while awaiting a decision. This permit enables them to work legally in Canada during the processing period.

IG Overseas offers a range of services tailored to different applicant needs, from full representation and final reviews to a do-it-yourself package. Whether you are applying from within or outside of Canada, IG Overseas provides comprehensive support to streamline the process.

To qualify for the CEC under the Express Entry system, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Work Experience: At least 12 months of skilled, full-time Canadian work experience (or the equivalent in part-time hours) within the last three years.
  2. Valid Work Authorization: Your work experience must have been completed with proper authorization in Canada.
  3. Language Proficiency: Pass an approved language test and meet the language requirements.
  4. Residency Intent: Plan to reside outside of Quebec

Eligible work experience is defined according to the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system and includes:

  • Managerial jobs (NOC skill level 0)
  • Professional jobs (NOC skill type A)
  • Technical jobs and skilled trades (NOC skill type B)

Work Hours Requirement:

  • Full-time: 30 hours per week for 12 months (1,560 hours), OR
  • Part-time: Equivalent to 1,560 hours over a longer period (e.g., 15 hours per week over 24 months).

The CEC uses the Express Entry system, which ranks candidates through the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). You must first receive an invitation to apply (ITA) from IRCC before submitting your application for permanent residence. If you are no longer in Canada, you can still apply within three years of leaving your last Canadian job.
